What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a skin condition where patches of your skin look darker than the surrounding regions. You may experience hyperpigmentation because of excess melanin production. Melanin is the substance that gives skin its color. When the melanin-producing cells are damaged, they produce excess melanin, which can lead to hyperpigmented spots. Hyperpigmentation leads to dark brown, black, gray, red, or pink patches and spots on the skin, which may be known as age spots, sunspots, or liver spots.

Causes of Hyperpigmentation:

  • Genetic predisposition to excess melanin production, such as freckles
  • Adrenal disorders that prevent your body from producing sufficient cortisol hormone
  • Hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy or puberty
  • Burns, cuts, acne breakouts, and other injuries (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)
  • Medications and drugs that cause excessive sensitivity to light
  • Insufficient folic acid and vitamin B12
  • Excessive exposure to direct sunlight
  • Thyroid disorders

Your Treatment Options

Halo Laser Treatment

Halo Laser is a cutting-edge laser technology that uses both ablative and non-ablative laser energy to treat hyperpigmentation. The Halo device delivers highly calibrated wavelengths of ablative laser energy, which strips away the uppermost layers of your damaged skin with the pigmented spots. This treatment effectively removes the skin tissues with excess pigmentation, thus revealing softer and more even-textured skin underneath. Halo laser treatment fades or eliminates the hyperpigmentation spots from your skin.

BBL Laser Treatment

BBL (BroadBand Light) is a cutting-edge laser technology that delivers pulses of calibrated light energy to treat hyperpigmentation. The cosmetic provider adjusts the wavelength of light to ensure it’s absorbed by the pigmented spots on your skin. The light energy breaks down the pigmented cells, thus facilitating their gradual removal from your body. BBL laser treatment gradually reduces the prominence of hyperpigmentation, making your skin look smooth and even.
